I found a surprise $9.60 deposit from the IRS in my bank account. As far as I can tell, it's neither my stimulus payment, which I received in April, nor my tax refund, which I received in May. Has anyone else found anything similar?

No, I got a surprise letter stating I screwed up calculating quarterly payments and instead of a refund I owed $400.

Here's your answer @Aaron G.
https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/13-point-9-million-americans-to-receive-irs-tax-refund-interest-taxable-payments-to-average-18-dollars

Would it have killed the IRS to indicate what the deposit is for? "INT Amount" is written on the checks, but apparently there's nothing if it's direct deposit. Everyone is on their own to try to find out what it is.

Just for fun, I tried to see if I could have answered that question. I Googled "Surprise IRS direct deposit" and the first non-ad result was an article in Forbes. I often end up on the Forbes website and always find it very helpful. I always thought that Forbes was just something that big-time investors read, but it's surprisingly clear and down-to-earth and useful. And it doesn't seem to require a paid subscription to read it.

Thank you that was very helpful. Just to clarify if you filed before April 15th do you still get it or only if you filed between April 16 and the June deadline?

Every little bit helps.

Good to know, thanks for the heads up!
