I still got a very ling time to go before retiring will take place but info tgat look leads up ti retirement would be appriciated other then having a job like how long, age, etc so i would know what to excpect when i do make it up to age for retirement ? Thanks

Good for you for considering retirement despite having a long time to go before then. It's never too early to start planning. Begin by getting to know what your retirement benefits are. If your employer offers benefits, you should have an understanding not only of what benefits would be provided but also what you need to qualify for those benefits.

Be sure to have emergency savings in place before getting to serious about retirement savings. People tend to focus on retirement over emergency savings then lack liquid savings if an emergency occurs. Once you have adequate emergency savings, the focus on your retirement savings. The rule of thumb is 15% of your income but the number could be higher if you want to retire early or expect higher expenses in retirement.

You can start withdrawing retirement funds when you turn 59 1/2 you have to at 70 1/2. Start early and research, you can choose to pick your own investments or pick a fund that will manage itself you're entire working life. Consider compounding interest and returns when deciding how much you think you can save toward retirement, it will help you prioritize saving.

Your 401(k) should have options on how you want to invest. Study the differences and decide how you want to invest the money that you are putting away for your retirement to maximize your return at the risk level you are comfortable with.

I wish I had a 401k with employer match. The older I get, the more I realize how great that could've been. At least I'm making good choices with my Roth IRA; it's better than nothing.
