Saving vs spending for some can be a mental battle more than anything (not counting bills and necessary items). For me I have trouble sometimes convincing myself I NEED to make a purchase when in reality I only want to. I’ve seen a couple useful tips on how to truly decide whether something is worth buying or not. One idea I’ve come across is putting the item down (or saving it in your cart for online shopping), then if you haven’t forgotten about it (which in itself helps prove you didn’t need it) come back to it in a few days. If after a few days you still think the cost is worth it, then it’s ok. Some realize in that time that they don’t need it as badly as previously thought. Another idea I’ve seen that some people say work for them is figuring out the cost of said purchase in hours you’ll have worked to pay for it. By that I mean if something costs $100 and you make $20 an hour, realizing that you have to work 5 hours to buy it might have you second guessing the purchase. Some can take this a little extreme and start trying to calculate every minor purchase, but don’t get too obsessed with this trick, you risk getting burnt out with the idea and giving up on it altogether. Try saving it for the big purchases if you find yourself going overboard with the calculations.

Cashapp has a debt card with about 10% off grocery purchases and other common places most people shop. Food Lion also offers coupons and a program called shop and earn. Basically if you spend X (usually 10-20) amount of dollars in a particular department you get 2-3 dollars off your next purchase.

I really try not to buy things I don’t need and tend to save as much as possible with eating at home and taking lunch to work when possible. I also walk places instead of drive and advise my family to do the same

Trying out new money saving methods help me to save money instead of using it. For example, when ever i get the chance to save money. Left over money that comes from money spent I always put coins in my jar and take $1bills and put them away as well, so at the end of the year you have something saved. 🙌

I C use Earny and topcashback(2-4 % off) when I shop along with my discover IT card (1-5% cash back) And use all the coupon codes I can find. This has really helped me save.
