Hi! Question about student loan interest for this year's taxes. Usually you receive a 1098 form that shows how much you paid in student loan interest over the year. But since payments and everything have been suspended because of covid, I'm assuming there's nothing to report, right? Will we still receive 1098 forms, even if there's nothing to report?

I believe we will get a 1098 stating no interest paid, which for me means no deduction. Most Student Loan tax information is made available Jan 31st, but you can do a check by looking over your last statement for 2021. Somewhere, there should be a notation of interest paid over the year, which will be the number reported to the IRS (or pretty close to it)

My loans are federal, but my husbands single remaining loan is private. His payments were not suspended, so we made regular payments. We will get no deduction on mine, but will be able to deduct his.
