My already “poor” credit is still getting hit with late payment points even though I’ve paid my student loans off in full! I called the credit company and they told me that my account was still open and after being on the phone with them for almost 2 hours nothing got accomplished closing the account even though it’s got a zero balance and a past due balance of zero dollars what am I supposed to do now?

If the account is fully paid off you shouldn't have a "past due" balance. If the account is showing up on your credit report (Experian, etc) you can dispute the information with the credit reporting agency, and they have to request the information from the source–if the source doesn't respond within 30 days, it is removed from your credit report. Doing everything in writing can take a while, but it's the best way to document the effort. https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0151-disputing-errors-credit-reports
Good luck!
