I'm trying to stay away from places like Amazon because I find myself using money that I should not have. Anyone else?

I mainly stick to subscribe and save on Amazon to try to limit my purchases there.

Same here . I'm addicted to Amazon so instead I've been taking surveys to redeem for amazon gift cards and I'm saving them for Christmas.

Las compras en línea se pueden volver una adicción entre más cosas vez más quieres gastar

I don't know what happened this week, but my spending went out of control. Most likely shopping to ignore schoolwork.

As far as Amazon gift cards, I highly recommend the Bing Rewards program if you're good about logging in every day to do activities and earn maximum points.

Due to the pandemic I have pretty much stopped making online orders because USPS and FedEx have been terrible when it comes to delivery. Their issues with delivery has inadvertently saved me money.

Online shopping since the pandemic started is my mainly the only shopping I do … if ya can get it online and delivered why go out?

This one is hard for me, but I'm trying. I just stay off of online shopping sites because then I don't see things that I want to buy. But didn't necessarily think I needed it until i saw it.

Amazon is like crack to me. They always have something wonderful to buy. They allow you create lists of all the amazing stuff you want. It is an experience for sure….a trap. At one point I was buying so much $@!#% fromAmazon, only for the very same products, that I was itching to get into my cart and to my house, had completely lost their vibe to me…like old hat. It is truly a psychological game….and undoing that only you have control over. Make it a point to go through a checkpoint before you buy. A list of questions.

1). Am I just bored?
2). Yeah it's nice, but do I really need that?
3). Is there some sort of countdown to a deal and am I being rushed to make a purchase I may very well regret later?
4). Could I find this cheaper at goodwill or a second hand store/discount store?
5). Am I replacing something that only needs replacing because of a minor imperfecrion…is it possible that I can live with this minor imperfection instead of spending money that could go into my savings?
6). How good would it feel knowing this money I am about to spend will be in my savings?
7). Have I remembered that sometimes it is not too late to come to my senses and go into my order and select to cancel my puchase?

Put these questions where you can see them. Refer to them before any purchase.

I shop online all the time you usually can find much better deals

G

Grace C.

I have a running list of things that I need. Then I wait for sales/deals. Forcing myself to wait before making a purchase allows me to rethink the purchase. If I haven't used or missed an item by the time it goes on sale, then I really don't need it.

M

If you purchase sensible things that you need there is nothing wrong with online shopping! Put it in your budget! You work hard for your money!!!!

I actually hate online shopping, so I do very very little of it. The amount you spend on shipping and delivery is just ridiculous to me. Especially when you’re waiting for day/weeks for your purchase to arrive.

There's a very simple way to curb online purchases. Only use a prepaid debit card. The Bluebird version of American Express works just fine on Amazon.

Unlike other versions of Bluebird or some prepaid cards the Walmart version allows you to transfer funds in from your bank or deposit funds to the card free at Walmart. Just don't deposit your whole check to the card or you're back into overspending temptations before you know it. Stick to the budget!
