I am a single parent to 4 children, Braxten, Brayden, Brenden & Brooklyn.. Their father is not in the picture and I have no help at all.. Therefore, I have been providing a home, food and shelter for them on one paycheck…
i have been laid off. My salary was barley enough to provide for my children. However, because of the coronavirus, I am in a difficult situation, as my children come first in my life and I would do anything to make sure they’re cared for.
I hate hearing people referring to this as the “new normal,” because honestly, the way the economy is right now is not normal. I am a single mom of 4 beautiful children that are my entire world.. I have supported them all on my own, since I was 16 years of age. This is not only affecting me but it’s affecting them.. They are suffering because of this and it isn’t fair… Before this virus, I was barley making ends meet, but now I’m really struggling! This virus has put a huge strain on our lives, tremendously. It’s impossible to be working and homeschooling your kids and dealing with global pandemic on your own, but I'm doing the best I can, and I’m hoping and praying to God everything will be okay…
The economy is facing a truly unprecedented situation. The global coronavirus pandemic is affecting all of our families, our businesses, our communities, and our way of life…
No one knows what it is like, till they are in your shoes. No child support from my children’s father because he would rather do everything but support his children.. I struggle everyday to do what I do, as a mother but I wouldn’t have it any other way. All I can do is pray to God.. There is something wonderful that has come out of this pandemic disaster, which is the time that I have got to spend with my children. On top of being a single mom of 4 children, I struggle with depression and anxiety. I have had a few incredibly low days, ever since this mess has started but on those days, my kids sense of humor and sweet kisses dragged me back to myself… Low-Income single moms like myself are a population acutely aware of that unpredictability.
There aren’t very many places to turn, especially being a low-income single mom..
You would think that everyone would be worried about the ones that were struggling before the pandemic but instead the main focus is on people that weren’t.
How can you stay well when you’re barely staying afloat? The advice to get a lot of sleep, eat well and exercise to try to avoid the virus also seems especially punishing to single parents. The last time I remember regularly sleeping more than six hours a night was decades ago, before I had children..

@Brittany - sorry to hear you're going through all that… it sounds difficult. Have you tried the COVID-19 support button on Saverlife?

I was a single mother once (before I got married) so I know your pain! It’s tough! Vent all you want, honey! Sometimes you have to get it out. I would stay up late trying to figure out life for the next few days. It’s hard. But know that there are resources for you. Google can be your best friend! You’d be amazed at what you can find when you add “free” to the search box!! Try your local food bank for food. Try the state to see what they can do to help, which may mean enforcing child support or jail time for dad. Like I said, I’ve been there. And if I can be of any assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out!!
