You have set limits when grown children decide to move back home. Set up a chore list before they move in.

Don't forget having them pay rent & contribute to bills and food.

I'm ready to downsize. I'm ready to have as little responsibilities as possible. I'm ready to be grown and sexy.

It's harder for this generation to get ahead, and my kids will always be welcome at home. That said, of course they'll need to contribute.

I would love to have any of my kids and or grandchildren move in with me. I miss them.

I lived in Spain for several years when I was a young adult, and I loved that the norm (at that time, anyway) was for the kids to take care of the parents instead of sticking them in a nursing home. There were often three or four generations living in the same home. There wasn't a lot of work available, so kids usually lived with their parents until they got married… and sometimes even after! I'm sure there were some problems, but in general, it seemed very loving and good for both the children and the elderly to have time together. That's why I ended up taking care of my parents in their old age. It was very difficult financially, physically, and emotionally; but it was very rewarding, and I'd give anything to have them back.

We have told our children from the time they were young teens they are welcome to live with us as long as they want and when they moved out that this is always their home to return to. The rule for contributing in our home is you help with household chores. You make the mess you clean it. As for monetary contributions, we wouldn't have them do that. While in high school we had each of them put 80% of their pay into a savings account. They can't access it at all, it is to be only used for further education or when they move out on their own. College savings was 70% in the bank because they commuted and had gas expenses. If they ever move home. My plan would be they have to promise at least 60% into savings, so once again they would have a nice nest egg to start again.

So far, this has worked very well for my kids. They are all very well rounded responsible adults with good jobs, good credit and have savings far beyond what I had at their ages.

I would love for my kids and/or grandkids to move in with me. The grandkids would be able to walk to their part time jobs during high school. There are plenty of part time jobs within walking distance for my grandchildren near my house.

I miss my kids and grandkids. I still would prefer them living with me. I miss cooking for them. I like the fellowship of having them live with me.
