I opened up a new bank account at a different bank and have auto deduct for a certain amount to go to the new bank account. I don't use the money in that account and I try not to look at it often. I'm usually surprised when I do see how much I've managed to save.

Discipline. Saving is not a journey, its a process and the first step to the process is changing your mindset to "pay myself first" and if that means opening an online bank account and setting up direct deposit for $10….do it. If you get paid bi-weekly that's $60 in 3-months and challenge yourself to increase it $10 to $20 a pay period over the next 3 months and as your savings grow, you will find you are the little train that could, make savings a priority over any shopping or wants you desire. If you have a good friend that you trust, ask them to join you as an accountability partner. It works and you can make saving a fun thing, with you as the long-term beneficiary.

You can save five dollars every week if you can. If not do it every two weeks.

Start with whatever amount you can, and make it a regular thing. Then, by increasing income or reducing spending, add to that savings amount over time.

Treat savings like a bill. Set up an online "payment" of this bill and then it will always be taken out of checking and put into your savings account. The next thing is definitely discipline. Don't allow yourself to take money out of savings unless it is an absolute emergency. If money is tight, look at deducting things you don't really need. Getting Starbucks in the morning for $5+ can be exchanged for making your own at home. It will probably save you both time and money in the end.

I need help on saving money… I’m 33 years old finally was able to purchase my first car… I have 2 kids , I work but due to covid hours are cut drastically… I have ZERO money saved up… I’m at a hole in the wall and really need some savings advice before I fall into this hole and am in even more debt than now!

Do you have something you do that costs money that you could reduce? Do you eat out or buy coffee? Choose one time a week to not do that and instead transfer what you would have spent to savings.

I like the idea of opening up a new account and having a direct deposit for savings.
