I’ve applied for several credit cards , but keep getting denied due to no credit… what am I doing wrong?

I would recommend seeing if you can be added as an authorize user to a family member's credit or get a low tier credit builder credit card. May need to get a secured credit card in the beginning to build a payment history with a card that reports to the credit bureaus.

I’ve applied for several credit cards, but keep getting denied due to no credit… what am I doing wrong?

  1. If you haven't already, pull your credit reports from all three bureaus which is presently free until April 2021, and see if there is anything inaccurate on them that you can dispute or things that you need otherwise resolve. Try www.annualcreditreport.com. Create a free account with Experian, the only bureau which reports a FICO 8 score. Consider enrolling with MyFico.com (not free)–they have three options. MyFico also has a very useful forum that you can join.

  2. Applying for credit temporarily decreases your credit score, and multiple applications will have more of an impact on your score. Even more so, to lenders, an applicant seems riskier when multiple, recent inquiries are present. When was the last time you applied for a card(s)? If it's been less than 6 months, cool your heels for a bit.

  3. What Kathleen S. said… BUT, and this is a h-u-g-e BUT, you only want to be an authorized buyer on the account of someone you have mutual trust with. And, they MUST be responsible with the use of their credit otherwise this route is not beneficial to you. Reputable 'secured' credit cards are an option–ones that graduate you to an unsecured card and give you your money back without a hassle. Do your research.

  4. Educate yourself, remain encouraged, and be patient. Credit building is a marathon, not a sprint.

Does defaulting on a predatory title loan effect my credit score negatively?

I have the Chime Credit Builder card linked with my bank account. This is a great way to build credit.

To build up my credit I made sure to pay all my bills on time and when I could I paid extra on them. My first card was a department store card (JCPenny). After some purchases then some payments, I applied for a credit card and got approved and was on my way to having good credit. You've got to start small and build your way up slowly. Don't get more cards than you can handle and never live beyond your means.

Are there programs for first time homebuyers with low credit score?

I am so happy that I'm building my credit up without getting a credit card to do it. I have received 2 advances using Dave and paid them off on time and no credit check, just a simple bank account. Cl

I found a great app called self. It is a credit building loan service. You take out a small loan (I took 500) . You do not get the money right away. You then choose how much you can afford to pay each month, and when it is paid off ; you get the money plus the interest . In the interim the payments are reported to all of the credit companies.

Any one know of any good programs for building credit?

i use credit Karma and it's free.

Yeah credit karma is good but know its a vantage score so it won't be the same as fico score but the credit history usually matches your true history unless a small mistake is somewhere

I haven't looked into Credit Karma but I've been meaning to research the website. I'm hoping to apply for a secure card and be strict about how much I charge to the card to build better credit history
