Monitoring your credit report once a month via CK is a good habit to start. Or now that we can get our credit reports more frequently via annuaulcreditreport, that’s an even better option to ensure accuracy of items that affect your score.

It's true, I know I regret not knowing more. I was never taught about the importance and now I'm 29 and have a horrible score and don't know how to raise it. I've never had a credit card.

I have a Discover Card credit card. I log in online, and Discover Card automatically keeps track of my credit score for me. Its a handy tool that I can check often to keep track of my credit score status and make sure everything is ok. There are many things I dont like about my Discover Card, but I keep the account because I have had it for so long. This is one of the features that my other major credit card does not have, so I see it as a plus, and worth keeping the card open for. Its a free service they provide, along with tracking your identity for other opened accounts in your name that might be fradulent, so this is a win win for me on this one!
