I’m working towards paying off my student loans! Right now, I have a full-time and part-time job. Whatever money I make in my part-time, I try to move to a savings account that's dedicated to helping me pay off my loans.

Deleted user

How do I save money from my different sources into one? Is moving money into my bank account the best way to go - not sure if I trust my bank!? Should I be investing it somewhere instead?

Deleted user

Interesting! If you're lucky enough, you could save the money from one of your jobs (streams of income) into a separate savings account.

For me, I have direct deposit set up for my two jobs, and then I have automatic deposit from my checking account to my various savings accounts.

Sometimes in life we just have to figure out our priorities an even if we suffer or live without or go through tough times remember the one thing that is most important thats something to think about what is most important to u

I have student loans as well, but I try not to stress much about those as I have not finished school.

And it's good not to stress! 🙏 "Staying calm through the storm will help you navigate" is something I like to tell myself when I feel a wave of financial stress coming on. (Also with regular stress)

Hi Susan, I believe you're referring to Public Service Loan Forgiveness (https://studentloans.gov/myDirectLoan/pslfFlow.action#!/pslf/launch), a program that allows certain federal loans to be forgiven after a decade of working full-time for a qualifying employer and paying qualifying payments. Not everyone is eligible for this, and the odds of having those loans forgiven even after those 10 years are even more slim. Here's a quote from a Forbes article from the group of people who were first eligible for PSLF:

"From the most recent data, 1,216 people have received loan forgiveness under the program. This is a huge improvement from the original 96.

However, 100,835 applications were still rejected."

@Keshira, same… I find that stressing about it makes things worse. What works for your when you're trying to de-stress from thinking about paying them off? Personally, I like to have face-to-face conversations with my friends who are in the same boat. It helps me realize that we're all in this together and that we'll all overcome this together.

I have A very hard time saving money, as I live off a very low disability payment t every month that barely pays the Bill's so how do I find ways to save money I dont have for emergency

I barely finished paying off mine and they were from my undergrad years!! I had a hard time dealing with the interest, so I'll chip in my 2cents. Some people already know this but it's a bad decision if you pay in small amounts. $100 a month will not help because most of it goes towards the interest charge and lenders tend to use the money to pay off any interest fees first than the actual loan. Per month I have been paying at least $600 (which mean I had to sacrifice my home internet and cable and phone bill but hey at least the library has free wifi). Though this may depend on the type of loan servicer you have (so take all of this with a grain of salt).

Need vs Want is something I try to stick to when I feel like I need extra money.

I paid mine off slowly by paying the interest weekly so that when I made the monthly payment it went to principal only.
