When you have been living tiny home for too long whether it's a room, an apartment, or even a trailer you realize you are either a very neat hoarder or you need more space. I'm saving each month so I can get my big house

I feel you. Our motivation to buy was two-fold - get to the right school district for our child, and not be renting anymore so we had control over our own home. We were so tired of not being allowed to fix things, yet our landlord never getting around to it. We set aside money each month above our rent to prepare for down payment/closing, and once kindergarten starts and we don't have a daycare payment anymore, our mortgage payment will be less than rent+home saving+daycare, so we'll be 'even' again. We did downsize, but the tradeoffs were worth it, we're being more creative about building storage space, and saving for future home improvements (hopefully expanding the house in 5-10 years instead of purchasing again!)

depending on your income and state, there are likely to be some awesome programs to help out - one thing we found was a $5000 interest free down payment loan, with payments deferred for three years. There was a similar program we would have been allowed to use too, but it ran out of money just before we applied (in August), so I recommend contacting such programs early in the year in case they run out of funding
