For those of you who have experience with cryptocurrency, what are your experiences? Is it a good form of investment?

IMO crypto should not be thought of as an investment. It is more a hedge against inflation much as gold & silver used to be.

If we've learned anything from the 12 month fluctuation in all the above people can and do lose money but that's not to say you should avoid owning any at all.

Currently my feeling is when you're looking at crypto as a hedge stay around 5% of your total investment funds which otherwise should be some combination of stocks, bonds, and US government bonds according to your risk tolerance.

I like stocks that stay around the same price range but offer high consistent dividends such as Pfizer. Sure you can search for a stock that may explode in value some day but your main emphasis should be towards steady consistent growth not boom or bust investments that may leave you with nothing.

crypto seems even more prone to drastic swings that traditional investment s, so it is not a place for money you may need in a hurry. Olny invest what you can leave in till there is a recovery.

I like the advice. I have some into cryptocurrency, but not any money that I absolutely need. Don't know much about it, pretty much just crossing my fingers over here hoping for the best :/

If you are looking for growth but cannot stomach the volatility in crypto markets, you could invest in a high growth IT fund like Vanguard's Information Technology ETF fund. I do not have this fund yet but I really like Vanguard for low cost funds. you can set up a Roth IRA if you qualify and buy these (and/or other appropriate investments) inside your Roth IRA. Here's an article I found: https://www.fool.com/investing/2021/03/09/this-vanguard-fund-is-the-bitcoin-of-etfs/

You could always invest in stablecoins, which is pegged to the us dollar and earn 8-10% interest. Then you don't have to worry about volatility.

If you buy a stable coin know your underlying asset custodian. They are not insured like FDIC deposits in a bank. It would not be a nice surprise if the "stable"-coin gets cut in half, or worse, due to a single point failure.

They can be quite volatile, as we have seen in the last few days.

Definitely don't follow the trend and do you own research.

Elton Musk just caused a major drop in the bit coin price. Barring any other bad news it should go back to it's prior level. I sure hope so

It's an interesting concept. I'm going to wait a bit to see how it plays out in the next year or two before investing.

We will probably be in a bear market for a while now, but I have optimism that it will eventually get back to an ath.

I've made some money trading ethereum crypto, but there are times I could've just as easily lost the same amount of money. The potential for making money is greater than with traditional stocks, but the risk of losing is also much higher.

Don't confuse trading and investing. A trader lives and dies by the fluctuations on the time scale he or she trades (seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks).

Investors have a horizon on the order of years. I actually get excited when something I invest in goes down a fair amount provided the long term outlook is still valid and I have capital to invest. This means I am getting an even better price. Imagine you are fairly confident BTC will hit 1 M in the next 5 to 7 years. Would you rather buy it now at 30k or 65k?

At 65k you will eventually see a 15x on your investment. At 30k you would have a 33x. The key is to do your homework and try to understand all of the likely factors that can affect the LONG TERM value of your investment.

You must be able to emotionally weather the inevitable storms that can knock 25%, 50%, 70% or even more off the peak value. Above all else, never risk more than you can afford to lose. If you do it will be nearly impossible to focus on the fundamentals that will eventually bring the asset to its long term fair value.

I've been day trading various coins since January, have made over 9k so far.
