I really like Stash! I can learn how to invest with as little as $5. The app also has really good articles on investing, saving, and retirement. Things like that.

@Shannon – I've heard great things about Robinhood as well!

Personally, I like Stash because it offers a mix of individual stocks as well as ETFs. It's interesting to see how my investments in individual stocks differs from my ETF investments.

What do you like about Robinhood?

S

Shannon H.

I like Robinhood as they send information about the companies and changes happening with the business regularly thru cell phone notifications. The notifications are little leafs across the top of the phone and I do not get sound or vibrations with them. The app also has company information and past performance records. It's been a great way to learn about investing and how the market fluctuates over the last 8 months. Couple friends signed up and have also said that they like the information that is available on the stocks on the app.

That does seem really helpful and informative!!

Hello,

I use Robinhood as many of you mentioned. I feel is easy to use and to understand.

I am just getting into investing and still looking for a good app to help me invest, since I don’t really know anything about investing.

Many people like acorns (I have not used it yet) it saves your change and invests into stocks

I have gotten free stock before on Robinhood and Webull but sometimes it is hard to understand what I am seeing. Nonetheless, I love learning and hope to see invest more later in life.

Thanks for the input! I've heard of Acorn but not Stash or Robinhood. I'll check them out!

I'm still learning but I just started using the Acorns app and really like it so far. I'll have to check out Robinhood though, I hadn't heard of that one.

Depends on what you want to do. If you’re interested in passively investing without having to worry about the details, then a robo-advisor is probably your best bet. I personally don’t like Stash for beginners because it has a tendency to gloss over key investing habits like informed stock selection. Instead, I would go with something like Acorns, Betterment, or Fidelity Go.

If you’re feeling a bit more adventurous, but would still prefer a mostly passive investing experience, then I would look into opening a regular brokerage or retirement account through a full service brokerage like Fidelity (my personal preference) or even a platform more targeted at longterm investors like M1 Finance. The key here is zero account management or commission fees. I would then look at investing in either a single broad market index fund (like VTI or VOO) or a target date fund that adjusts stock and bond allocations automatically as you approach retirement age.

Finally, if your goal is informed, self-directed investing, I would go with a full service brokerage over some of these simpler app platforms like Stash and Robinhood. These apps do offer a simpler and often more intuitive interface, but they do so at the expense of other things like customer service, platform reliability, research tools, and specific investing features.

I use both Acorns and Robinhood and enjoy both of them!

Stash has fees. I would use a brokerage with no fees.

I've dabbled with several apps and was charged fees for buying and or selling stocks. Robinhood robbed the $@!#% outta me. Don't go there. Stash, however, charges absolutely no fees for buying or selling. I've bought and sold on this app and always received exactly what I expected back. Stash is also educational and fun to use. There's a gentleman on youtube that has regular educational videos about Stash and its policies. I knew nothing about stock, But I know this a month ago I put $200 on Tesla stock, today with appreciation it's at $275 if I cash out right now which I could with no fees. Tomorrow, who knows they may go bankrupt and the money vanishes. It's a chance you take where you hope for the best but expect the worst. Do your homework and research stock before investing your money. This could be a great time to invest.

I heard that Acorns is free for college students with an .edu address to use the app for free for up to four years. I think, It is great benefit for current college students to sign up for an account.

I like Stash because of the custodial accounts. I've been using it for almost two years now. It was definitely a gateway I to the stick market for me. I found myself reading a lot of the "Little Book of…" series and listening to podcasts because of Stash.

Robinhood is good because you learn a lot of things without having to spend a lot of money or take major chances
