Are there any Mutual Funds that you would recommend to begin investing? I hear they are less risky than stocks.

Depending on your age you'd need to research how much of these funds you'd want to hold but I've asked myself this question 100+ times.

Total market funds (100% equity)
Vanguard VTSAX
Fidelity FZROX or FSKAX

Buy and hold forever, when you want to diversify use newly added cash/funds to build up new positions.

I recommend ETFs. The expense ratios of ETFs are generally lower that mutual funds. You can also trade ETFs during the market hours with price transparency (but for mutual funds, you don't know the price you pay before your order is executed).
