This is a clear and informative article that highlights the special challenges of being low-income.
It's common sense (closed schools leads to kids needing childcare, eating at home increasing parents' bills) borne out by statistics.

I'm a stay at grandma who's been helping out my daughter care for her kids so she don't have to pay for high daycare. Instead she pays me to watch them so she can work as much overtime as she can to pay bills and take care of us. When the shutdown first started I was fine with it because I'm a homebody anyways, so it didn't bother me to stay home. But then the schools closed and my grandkids had to be home all day and do virtual school…….That's when my nightmare began! I'm losing my mind and my patience. I'm so very sleep deprived Stressed out and overwhelmed. Dealing with these kids all day, everyday is to much for me,I need them back at school now

This article is great! I love that it points out not only potential issues but also resources to solve.

The school district here is having free lunches for all kids, even while they are remote learning. The problem then becomes the transportation to the school to pick up that lunch. At least they are trying!

Here’s another problem I have with the Virtual Learning, the school my nephew attends only helps with 2 months of internet that he needs to use his loaned laptop, then they don’t want him in pajamas or in bed and while that seems easy enough, I don’t have furniture to accommodate that nor can I keep clothes on him a good portion of the day because he is on the Spectrum and he loves his pajamas, so not only do I get to deal with him being home all day, he needs internet and can’t be in pajamas and I now need to purchase a couch or table and chairs which I was fine without before this madness happened. It’s very costly to keep my nephew home. Thanks for listening to me vent.

@Ty, that's great the school is still providing free lunches for all kids! Sorry to hear about the transportation issues though. It is something though ❤

Are there any resources where I can get a computer for my 22 year old pregnant God daughter to to study for the GED.

The food bill and internet bill went sky high due to my teens staying home for virtual learning. Their grades have dropped a lot too and have a very difficult time keeping up with assignments in all classes. Teachers are not available when you need them a lot of the time so my teens keep falling more behind. Luckily I no longer need childcare but if I did, I wouldn't be able to afford it.

My kids and I have struggled. Virtual learning has made us all be accountable more so than when they were going to traditional school. It's had challenges however I think after one year, my kids are now more responsible for their school work. They get a long so much better because they only had each other to play with. They're definitely better with a computer than dear old mom now and most importantly, they have learned how to adapt and roll with the punches.

We're finally back full time and in the 2 weeks since my son's grades are skyrocketed

I live in florida and I am so glad my kid got to return to school like normal even though have to wear mask and stuff but school has had barely any covid cases I believe it was 2 and 1 was a teacher I don't think the virtual learning is good for all kids
