For many people it's not the saving that's as hard as the resisting temptation to tap the saving for other than a desperate need.

If you deposit to your savings on Friday only to pull it out again by Tuesday you're never going to save anything.

My hardest thing is to remember what I am saving for. I need furniture, I have pau college tuition, etc

The minimum they want you to do is add $5 a week to your savings account.

Savings goals…..make a list of everything you need first in priority level to your need and set a timeframe for achieving the goal. The cost for it (my strategy is to add 10% of the current cost) but for items you can get on sale the extra can go toward the next thing on your list. Then you look at how you will finance it, it may require overtime, getting another job or doing freelance work. You have to challenge yourself to make the process succeed and never, never, never give up on yourself.

I have a separate savings account that withdraws some money every time I get paid (biweekly). That way it's done automatically and it goes into a higher interest savings account, which I use Ally.com.
